KL&L Short Globe Lantern Survey: KL&L Website

Following are known markings of "short-globe" lanterns, #200, #250, and "Kero" models, manufactured by the Adams & Westlake Company. Markings in blue are from the original "Key, Lock and Lantern" magazine articles. Please see copyright information and other comments in the footnotes. Markings in red are newly added since the survey information was published. Logo markings are those markings which incorporate artwork which was a trademark of the railroad, e.g., the Rock Island herald.

No ownership information is maintained with the survey listings. All new markings sent in for addition to the list are treated anonymously, and no ownership information will be disclosed.
Markings are shown as published in "Key, Lock and Lantern" (#79, Spring 1986, p. 1410; #84, Summer 1987, p. 1586), which presumably means the specific lettering that was found on the lanterns. Note that periods were left off in the #200 and #250 lists, although it's probably safe to assume that some markings include periods. Because of this ambiguity, we omit all periods. Matching the initials with a specific railroad can usually be done by consulting one of the railroad name references by Edson or Gross. However, sometimes there is ambiguity due to the fact that the same initials (e.g. B&A RR) may stand for more than one railroad (e.g., Boston & Albany Railroad or Bangor & Aroostook Railroad).

* Modern reproduction sold as a souvenir. The markings stand for "Golden Circle & San Juan Railroad, a fictitious line associated with the Colorado Railroad Museum.
